Where We Are:
We worship Christ - love incarnate - in the West Point Grey neighbourhood of Vancouver, which is on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam Nation.
We praise God here where the Fraser River meets the Salish Sea, where city and farm, wilderness and industry are side by side. We praise God at a time when the body of the earth is broken again and again.
Who We Are:
Our ancestors journeyed with God in creation and migration. They depended on the land, were displaced from the land and displaced others from their lands. Our ancestors knew God in tents and cities, on mountains and by wells, in families and in dreams, and through wilderness prophets who spoke of cedars and listened to ravens.
We give thanks for Jesus, whose first bed was a feed trough. He was baptized in the Jordan, tested in the wilderness, he traveled in fishing boats and told parables of farmers and seeds, labour and wages, yeast and bread.
We join our voices with all creation to honour Creator, Christ and Spirit. And we ask God to fill us with the courage and love of Jesus, that we may strive for justice and peace, respect the dignity of every human being, and safeguard the integrity of creation.
Language adapted from a Eucharistic Prayer St. Helen's uses from the Salal + Cedar Community
We are a Christian community rooted in the Anglican tradition: sacramental, liturgical, thoughtful, and welcoming.
God With Us
We believe in God who is love incarnate — revealed in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and present with us through the Holy Spirit. We seek to follow Christ in compassion, justice, and hope.
Sacramental
We meet God in tangible ways — through bread and wine, water and oil, word and silence, and in humans and creatures alike. The Eucharist (Holy Communion) is at the heart of our worship: a meal of grace where we express gratitude for life, and where all are fed, healed, and sent out to serve.
Inclusive and Open
We affirm and protect the dignity of every person. We welcome people of all ages, backgrounds, identities, and orientations into the full life of the Church. We affirm racial and gender inclusivity in all church bodies and structures, and we affirm the sacramental love at the heart of human relationships, including thouse found in same-gender and same-sex marriages.
Scripture and Tradition
We read the Bible with reverence and curiosity, guided by tradition, reason, and experience. We welcome questions and trust that doubt and wonder are part of faith.
Community and Mission
We believe faith is lived in community. At St. Helen’s, we grow together in worship, learning, and service. And we seek to emobody Christ's love for our neighbours, both near and far.
