Thomas only asked for the same experience as his colleagues had -- the opportunity to be in the presence of the risen Jesus. He became, just as the others, a witness to God's act of love and power. Becoming a witness requires belonging to a community that shapes our identity and gives us meaning. In such a community we can learn life-giving and generous ways of behaving. From that belonging and behaving is birthed believing, a love for what we have experienced and learned.
