About Worship at St. Helen’s
It’s Beautiful:
Our Anglican worship is a beautiful and reverent liturgy that has been passed down through generations, but is updated for this time and place. The rhythm of the service, the use of hymns, prayers, and readings from the Bible, the use of liturgical art, and our music (including the voices of several professional singers and musicians at the 10:00am service) all combine to create a sense of awe and reverence, drawing worshippers into a sacred space where they can encounter the divine.
It’s Sacramental:
Anglicans traditionally revere the sacraments, particularly Baptism and Holy Communion (the Eucharist). In the water of baptism and through the shares meal of bread and wine, worshippers can feel the presence of Christ in a tangible way, drawing us closer to God and to one another. Whether you are new to Anglicanism or born into it, this sacramental focus can be deeply meaningful and spiritually nourishing.
It’s Inclusive:
St. Helen’s strives to be an inclusive and welcoming community where people from all walks of life can come together to worship and grow in their faith. People are warm and friendly and interesting at St. Helen’s. Regardless of background of belief, everyone is invited to participate fully in Anglican worship, fostering a sense of belonging and acceptance.
It’s Scriptural:
Anglican worship places a strong emphasis on the reading and proclamation of Scripture. The lectionary, a set schedule of readings from the Bible, ensures that worshippers encounter a wide range of biblical passages over the course of the church year. This breadth of readings from ancient sources helps worshippers to discover new insights and inspiration for their spiritual journey.
It’s both Traditional and Modern:
Worship at St. Helen’s strikes a balance between honoring tradition and embracing contemporary expressions of faith. While rooted in ancient practices and liturgical forms, our worship also leaves room for creative adaptations and fresh interpretations that speak to the needs and concerns of modern worshippers.
It’s focused on Social Justice & Service:
Anglicans are often deeply committed to social justice and serving those in need, and St. Helen’s is no exception. St. Helen’s actively engages in outreach ministries, such as feeding the hungry, caring for the homeless, and advocating for marginalized communities. Every worship service at St. Helen’s upholds the dignity of all God’s creatures, calls for peace and reconciliation between all peoples, and renews the worshipping community so that it can be a conduit of God’s love in the world.
